Breakwater, St Monan’s

East Neuk, Fife This zigzag breakwater at St Monan’s was built to protect the harbour entrance. It was probably built in the 1860s and funded by local fisherman, before the later development of the harbour by the engineers of the Stevenson lighthouse family. Its practical design has resulted in a shape that makes it an appealing subject for photographers.
